At Happy Top Doodles, our Guardian Home Program allows families to care for one of our top breeding dogs as a cherished pet while helping us maintain an ethical breeding program. You’ll welcome a wonderful dog into your home without the initial purchase cost, and once their breeding career is complete, they become a permanent part of your family.

 

How the Program Works for Females:

Female Guardian dogs are crucial to our breeding program. Females can have up to 4 litters during their career, starting after they are 12 months of age. When a female comes into heat, she will be brought to our home for breeding. Afterward, she returns home to you for the duration of her pregnancy, enjoying the comfort of your home. About one week before her due date, she will return to us to deliver her puppies and will stay with us until the puppies are fully weaned, usually around 5-6 weeks. After this, she comes back home until her next breeding cycle. Once her breeding career is complete, she will be spayed and remain with you as your forever pet.

 

How the Program Works for Males:

Male Guardian dogs start their breeding career around one year of age and can participate in the program for a longer period than females. As a Guardian, you will make your male dog available for breeding a few times a year, and he will remain with you full-time when not being bred. The breeding appointments are brief, usually lasting just a few days.

 

 What We Expect From Guardian Families:

- Home Environment: You’ll provide a loving home where the dog is part of the family.

- Location: Guardians should live within a one-hour radius of our facility for easy coordination during breeding.

- Care: Provide proper daily care, including feeding high-quality food, regular vet visits, grooming, and exercise.

- Female Management: During heat cycles, female dogs must be kept away from unneutered males and transported to us for breeding.

- Male Availability: Male dogs need to be available for breeding appointments a few times per year.
